The photograph by Marian Grabski "Wyrwa" was taken in August 1944 inside the Powszechny Bank Zwiazkowy at ul. Consent 11. Rows of beds were placed in the vast hall for patients of the evacuated Maltese Hospital. The facility previously operated in the Mniszech Palace at ul. Senatorska. On August 14, a unit of the Dirlewanger brigade forced its rapid departure; some of the wounded were taken to the PKO building at Jasna Street, and the rest, together with the staff, to Zgodzie 11. The photo documents a specific stage of the hospital's wanderings, not an anonymous field facility. After the building was bombed on September 4, patients and staff were moved to ul. Śniadeckich 17, where the hospital survived until the capitulation.
