Historical context
What do we know about this scene
On August 14, 1944, soldiers of the 107th platoon of the 2nd company of the 8th Home Army Group "Krybar" captured the German half-track transporter Sd.Kfz. 251/3 Ausf. D from the 5th SS Panzer Division "Wiking". The driver made a mistake: instead of going to the University, he turned into Kopernika and then into Bartoszewicza, where after a short fight the vehicle was seized. The photograph by Sylwester Braun "Kris" shows a drive along Kopernika Street. Initially, the car was called "Jaś", after the nickname of the company commander, Jan Jasieński. On August 23, he participated with "Kubuś" in an unsuccessful attack on the University. After the death of the vehicle's commander, Adam Dewicz "Gray Wilk", he received his nickname.
