Historical context
What do we know about this scene
On August 20, 1944, on the third Sunday of the Uprising, Tadeusz Bukowski "Bończa" photographed the mass celebrated in the concert hall of the Music Conservatory at ul. Okólnik 1. The building was an important base for the Home Army Group "Krybar": its vehicles and soldiers were stationed in the garden, and cultural and religious events took place inside. From August 15 to 26, the head of the Home Army Ministry, Fr. Stefan Kowalczyk "Biblia" organized a prayer for fighting Warsaw; masses were celebrated in Powiśle, among others right in the conservatory hall. The main chaplain of "Krybar" was Fr. Franciszek Olszowski "Generous". However, the sources do not allow us to confidently name the celebrant visible in this particular shot.
